Cold Water Canyon Stone Alta-Northern California quarry. Cold Water Canyon stone, also known as Desert Flats, is a lava fieldstone. The unique characteristics of this stone are mostly flat rock only a few inches thick and range from about 10 to 18 inches wide and are covered with moss and lichens. Cold Water Canyon a fantastic building stone. Cold Water Canyon is a natural porous lava flagstone that comes in flat semi-rounded to irregular shapes. It can be used for veneer (65 to 80 sqft per ton) or dry stacked walls, decorative borders, bridges, steps, and pond edges. Color ranges from reddish-brown to black with moss and lichens are on the top surface.
It is packaged in a wire basket attached to a pallet and is priced by the ton. It can be hand-picked in small amounts and bought by the pound. 1 ton per 70 square feet when used as flagstone groundcover.
